"The Ukrainians"




 Right after the success of Wedding Present's "Ukrainski Vystupy v Ivana Pila" [live play(fragment of this record) save as] , one of the band's members - Peter Solovka, decided to make his own project together with two other session musicians. Under the name of "The Ukrainians" they recorded material which at the same time includes traditional folklore music - very common Ukrainian standard pieces and band's own material also inspired by traditional music. All this turned out to be an energetic mixture of traditional British rock and folk music.

This second record of "The Ukrainians" made the band known and popular also outside the Great Britain. It was announced to be the record of March' 93 by VOX magazine. It's got all the best good points from the first album, such as incredible energy, speed, power, freshness and simplicity and besides all that also first signs of real piece of art in interpretation and in rhythmic section. The musicians still have a great deal of respect for traditional music, however they also show their respect for modern canons. This results in amazing and perfect versions of the Smiths and Velvet Underground cover pieces.

"Kultura"

The most advanced product of Solovka and Co. Thick factures and new brass and female voices arrangements. More of a pop sound but still all the main good features from previous albums are still there. It turned out to be a material filled with folklore and rock but above all with theme message: be aware of "McDonalding" the culture and tradition in Europe.
